Eligibility Criteria – Entrepreneurs

  1. Age: All participating entrepreneurs must be 35 years old or younger as the date of submission of their application.
  2. Citizenship: Entrepreneurs must be legally recognized adult citizens of an African Union member country with valid means of identification.
  3. Foundership: The entrepreneurs must be the founder or co-founder of the venture they are representing and with evidence of active involvement in its daily operations and leadership.
  4. Clean Record: Applicants must possess no criminal convictions related to corruption, tax evasion, financial wrongdoing, felonies, or other serious offenses. You may be required to sign a declaration confirming this.

Eligibility Criteria – Agri-venture

Participating Agri-Ventures Must Meet These Requirements

  1. Registration: The business must be legally registered in an African Union member country by the application deadline (July 10th, 2024) or be actively undergoing registration.
  2. Headquarters: The venture’s headquarters must be located in a member country of the African Union.
  3. Financial Sustainability: Participating businesses should be designed for long-term financial health. This applies to both for-profit businesses and non-profits that generate some income and aim to reduce reliance on donor funding.
  4. Focus on Agri-Food: The venture’s core function must be within the agri-food sector, or it should significantly support the sector through innovation or process improvement.
  5. Agri-Food Sector Examples: This includes businesses involved in:
    • Research & Development for agri-food
    • Primary food production (farming)
    • Crop nutrition
    • Irrigation systems
    • Mechanization, automation, or robotics (including drones)
    • Crop protection methods
    • Hydroponics or urban farming techniques
    • Transport, distribution, storage, or logistics of food
    • Food processing
    • Packaging or marketing of food products
    • Food retail or food service businesses
    • Waste management or recycling solutions for the agri-food sector
    • Digital or technology solutions specifically designed for the agri-food sector
    • Innovative financial solutions or services for the agri-food sector
    • Renewable energy or environmental solutions that benefit the agri-food sector

Agripreneur Prize Competition Timeline

Applications for the 2024 GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competitions commenced in April. The competition will culminate in a thrilling finale at the A8 April FS Summit in Kigali, Rwanda this September. Here, the top finalists will present their ventures live on stage and vie for the top prize.

(8 April 2024) Applications open → (8 April 2024)

Expert jury commence evaluation of applications  → (10 June, 2024) → Entries close midnight →(Mid-July, 2024)  Top 24 announced → (Late July, 2024) Semi finalists interviewed  → (31 July, 2024)

Top 12 finalists notified and revealed → (7- 30 August, 2024) Top 12 finalists pitch their businesses to the public →  (2-4 September , 2024) Finalists invited to compete on stage in Kilgali, Rwanda → (5 September, 2024) → Grand prize awarded.

Application Process

Applications are securely received and collated by VC4A (Venture Capital 4 Africa). This ensures that all entries are safe.

  • To apply, you will first need to create a free VC4A profile. This allows you to save your progress and come back to your application later.
  • Take your time to present your agri-venture in the best light. Strong applications stand out to the judges.
  • Once submitted, applications cannot be edited.
