Pitch AgriHack is a digital agricultural technology competition that aims to accelerate entrepreneurship growth and employment creation for agritech businesses. The program achieves this through the utilisation of cutting-edge technology and youth involvement in Africa’s food security agenda.

African agritech entrepreneurs are invited to pitch their strategies for promoting technological innovation in the agriculture sector at the eighth Pitch AgriHack event. The tournament is being hosted by Generation Africa, a platform initiated by  African Green Revolution Conference (AGRF)  to strengthen the ecosystem for African youth entrepreneurs in the agriculture and food sector.

The competition is also supported by Heifer International, a worldwide development organisation that has supported over 39 million residents of rural communities across Africa in the past 48 years.

Innovators promoting enhanced technological use and employment creation in Africa’s agricultural sector will be rewarded with cash awards at the end of the competition.

Pitch AgriHack 2022’s open competition will assist agritech businesses who are advancing agricultural innovation across three categories, with rewards totalling US$45,000 in value.

The competition categories include:

  • Early-stage businesses
  • Mature/Growth-stage businesses
  • Women-led businesses

The Heifer International-sponsored AYuTe Africa Challenge, a fourth invite-only category, will provide up to US$1.5 million in funding to scaleable projects that are already producing quantitative impacts for smallholder farmers in Africa.

Two winners from the invite-only AYuTe Africa Challenge category and six winners from the open-application categories will be chosen. The winners will be revealed at the AGRF Summit, which will take place in Kigali from September 5–9.

Top contenders will have the opportunity to attend a one-day boot camp to prepare for their final pitches, and winners will continue to receive support as they build and expand their businesses.

Competition finalists will also have the opportunity to publish their business profiles in a Deal Book that will be widely circulated at the AGRF and online. Individual profiles will also be made public on the genafrica.org platform and evaluated for relevance to their respective investor community.

Timeframe for applications: June 20 to July 29, 2022.
